In-situ Nanomanipulation Open Day and Workshop

The University of Sheffield, UK
Monday 25th June 2007

This workshop hosted ten expert speakers in the areas of nanomanipulation, nanomechanics, nano-tomography, control engineering and in-situ SPM. This event was part of the mid-project outreach activities of our RCUK funded Basic Technology project entitled 'Nanorobotics-Technologies for Simultaneous Multidimensional Imaging and Manipulation of Nanoobjects' see www.nanomanipulation.org for further details. The project is collaboration between the University of Sheffield, Sheffield Hallam University, and the University of Nottingham

Abstracts for poster contributions were in the areas of:

  • Nanomanipulation
  • Nanomechanics
  • Nano-tomography
  • In-situ SPM

Speakers included:

Dr Jean-Marc Breguet, EPFL, Switzerland: "Applications of piezo-actuated micro-robots in micro-biology and material science",

Prof M.S. Bobji, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India: ‘Deformation Mechanics through Nanoindentation and Electron Microscopy’

Dr Michael Uchic, Air force research laboratory, Dayton, USA: " New Methodologies for Evaluating Mechanical Properties at the Micro-scale"

Dr Qing Chen, Peking University, China: “In situ measuring and modifying carbon nanotubes and nanowires using nanomanipulators inside SEM and TEM”
